One look at the points table gives a rather surprising look, where one of the strongest teams in the competition, Royal Challengers Bangalore languishes in the second last position of the standings table. Their opponents for today, Delhi Daredevils is even worse as they are in the last position. Both these teams have had an unfortunate season so far, where their chances of reaching the first four remains an impossible dream.
Bangalore with their strong batting line up has been
a major disappointment, where they have not been able to put a string
of victories, though one would also call them an unlucky side for
they have lost matches from a good position. They only won three out
of the nine matches played so far.
RCB was dependent on Kohli, but failed to come up
with consistent scores. Other than AB de Villiers, who has scored 280
odd runs so far, none of the batsmen were successful. Yuvraj has
scored decent runs in few matches, but Gayle is yet to take IPL 2014
by storm. In spite of such quality batsmen, it is their bowlers have
looked a better unit, where VR Aaron, YS Chahal and Mitchell Starc
have taken 12, 11 and 11 wickets respectively. Their batsmen let them
Delhi has only won two out of their nine matches so
far. Though, few batsmen of their's such as JP Duminy and Karthik
have looked decent, but it is their bowlers who have been a major
drawback. Pietersen has also not been in the best of knicks.
None of their bowlers feature even in the top 20
highest wicket takers so far. Delhi does not seem to have a balanced
team as they lack quality bowlers in their team. They depend to a
large extent on Mohammed Shami, who cannot do much single-handedly,
as it is a team game.
Going into the game, RCB can be considered
favourites, but with the inconsistent performance put up by RCB in
the season so far, one cannot discount a Delhi victory as well.
