IPL 2014 Qualifier 1 : KKR vs KXIP
Kolkata Knight Riders looked down and out in the first few matches of the competition and were even counted out. But, midway, things changed and KKR gained momentum – seven matches in a trot, which helped them attain second position in the IPL standings table after the conclusion of the round robin stages. They will take on one of the most consistent team of the competition, Kings XI Punjab later tonight who leads the standings table.

These two teams bring a mouth watering clash with the winner progressing into the finals of the competition. Both teams are well balanced and have a good mix of batsmen and bowlers in their ranks. Sunil Narine, KKR's lethal weapon is the joint highest wicket taker in the tournament with 20 wickets and Robin Uthappa has been sensational, scoring 613 runs – highest run scorer in the tournament.

But, Punjab possesses the strongest batting line up, which boasts of Sehwag, Maxwell, Miller and Bailey, where Maxwell and Miller have been firing on all cylinders scoring 533 and 399 runs respectively. Even if one of these players come out all guns blazing, KKR would have a tough task at hand, for these players have the potential to change the game in a matter of few overs.

KKR on the other hand also possess such batsmen, such as Uthappa and Yusuf Pathan and the latter has looked great in his last two matches. His last innings of 22 ball 72 has been claimed to be the most destructive innings of the tournament by many. If Pathan would be able to deliver such an innings once again, Punjab bowlers, which lack quality would be thrashed all over the park.

KKR might well have an upper hand with the expected jam packed stadium at Eden Gardens supporting the home team. This should not deter Punjab who has had a fair share of success on the road. With the consistency that the Bailey led Punjab team has shown, it would not be fair for the team to fail in such a crucial hurdle, while KKR supporters would be uttering the same owing to their form in the latter half of the competoition.

Irrespective of who loses the game, they still have a chance to progress in the finals. The losing team would get one more chance to bite the cherry, as they would play the winner of the eliminator between Chennai and Mumbai tomorrow.
