IPL 2015 Opening Ceremony: Cricket festival to witness audience, star cricketers matching steps with Bollywood stars
Indian Premier League's 8th season will formally kick off today with some superb performances by Bollywoood stars like Hrithik Roshan, Anushka Sharma, Farhan Akhtar and Shahid Kapoor giving it the green light.

The IPL 2015 opening ceremony will take place at Kolkata's Salk Lake stadium with thousands of spectators joining the two hour long inaugural event. The audience is set to have a festival feel. Notably the IPL has also been promoted as 'India Ka Tyohar' by the organisers.

The ceremony will start at 7:30 pm, but the gates of the venue will open at 5:00 pm. The program will be telecast live on Sony Max and Sony Six. The captains of all the 8 participating teams will be present at the function to take the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) Spirit of Cricket pledge.

The captain of the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders, Gautam Gambhir will put the trophy back in play, signalling the start of the 2015 season.

Around 400 performers will be performing in the stellar opener choreographed by Remo D'Souza and Santosh Shetty. Actor-director Farhan Akhtar will be performing live with his band while actor Saif Ali Khan, son of Indian cricketing legend Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi will host the whole event. Composer Pritam is going to take charge of music along with Ash King (born as Ashutosh Ganguly), the London-based Indian-origin singer.

According to weather forecasters thunderstorms could hamper the opening ceremony but it looks the enthusiasm of the star performers will remain unaffected even if a downpour happens. Hirthik Roshan's tweet is an indication of that enthusiasm.

The IPL opener between Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians at the Eden Gardens is also facing threat from weather.
