IPL 2017 Match Preview: Match 49 – KXIP V/s KKR
KKR would like to win today's encounter against Kings XI Punjab to finish in the top-two of the league's table. The match takes place at the IS Bindra stadium in Mohali tonight.

Although the Kolkata Knight Riders have already secured a berth in the play-offs with their last win, they would look to win today's match as well so that they can finish among the top two teams of IPL 10.

KKR made an emphatic come back on Saturday by pounding RCB by 6-wickets after back-to-back defeats. Gambhir-led Kolkata are currently placed at the second position of the points table with 16 points from 12 matches.

On the other hand, Punjab come into this match after suffering a defeat at the hands of Gujarat Lions on Sunday night. What's even more worrying for KXIP is that they lost the match despite scoring 189/3 giving the Gujarat Lions a decent target to chase. The team's inconsistency and sloppy fielding which also led to giving two lives to Smith resulted in a six-wicket loss, a match which they could have easily won.

Sunday's defeat has greatly dented KXIP's chances of making it to the play-offs. The team has to win all three of its remaining matches to have any chance of qualifying. King XI Punjab have just managed five wins from 11 matches and are placed at the fifth spot with just 10 points. What makes things even more difficult for KXIP is that their remaining two matches after this one are against Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Supergiant, both teams that look in ominous form and are among the top three in the League at the moment.

The only sliver lining for the KXIP is their South African import and their batting mainstay Hashim Amla, who already has 400-plus runs under his belt including two centuries against MI & GL. But other players like Martin Guptill, Shaun Marsh and Manan Vohra will also have to fire.

On the flip side, all has been going smooth for KKR in IPL barring minor hiccups. Chasing a modest total of 159 against RCB on Sunday night, KKR cruised to 105 for no loss in just 6 overs, all thanks to a blazing half-century (54 off 17 balls) from Sunil Narine. He now holds that record for scoring the fastest half-century in IPL history.

It is to be seen till how long the experiment of using Narine as a pinch hitter succeeds for Kolkata. But till now, it has been paying them rich dividends.

On current form and team combination, KKR look a much better side and should win comfortably today, unless KXIP have other plans.
