IPL 2019 performances may win world cup berths for some Indian players
This year's IPL has started early compared to the previous editions for two reasons, such as general elections in India from April to May 2019 and the forthcoming ICC World Cup to be held in England starting from 30th May 2019. However, the usual excitement and euphoria behind IPL are intact.

Indian players will be looking to impress the selectors with solid performance in this IPL for a possible place in world cup squad. India is still searching for a batsman to bat at No.4 and there are many contenders. IPL will give them an opportunity to stake claim.

Four players are certain as batsmen namely Rohit SharmaShikhar DhawanVirat Kohli and MS Dhoni. Two or three from the nine players mentioned below will be picked up to complete the lineup of batsmen.

Suresh Raina: He bats at No 3 in CSK line up and hence will get many opportunities to score big. His chances are bleak though as the selectors are looking for fresh faces, but a solid performance may bring him into contention.  By solid performance I mean a total of more than 700 runs at an average of more than 50.

Ambati Rayudu: One may think that his position is guaranteed. But I think otherwise. He will also have to score consistently in IPL to get the nod of the selectors. As an opener for CSK, he will always get chance to score big and impress the selectors.

Dinesh Karthik: The KKR captain knows that he is not in the radar. He had got his chances off and on. Only a rock-solid performance with bat and behind the wickets may bring him to contention as a batsman and reserve wicket keeper.

Rishabh Pant: The hard-hitting batsman from DC requires no introduction. He single-handedly swept MI out of the match when he scored 77 from just 27 balls. I think he will continue to bat like that to impress the selectors to get a place as a batsman to bat at No. 4 or as a reserve wicket keeper cum batsman.

Manish Pandey: The talented SRH batsman has not got chances he deserved. In IPL too, he bats at middle order which means he will get less balls to face. To stake a claim, he must score big. But with Warner and Bairstow opening the innings and doing well, I don't think Manish will get much time at the crease. That means his world cup chances are as good as gone.

Yuvraj Singh: Playing this time for MI, Yuvraj is a shadow of his former self. But still he has fire power left. He proved that in the first match against DC scoring 53 from 36 balls. He will bat at No 4 for MI and therefore will get quality time at the crease. A great performance in this IPL may just be enough for him to get a place in World Cup team but let me concede, his chances are remote.

Ajinkya Rahane: The RR captain is eager to show his prowess in limited over cricket but did not get as many chances as he would have liked. A regular for Test matches, Rahane can be invaluable in batting at No. 4 in English conditions. He is opening the innings in this IPL and hence will try to prove a point to the selectors.

Kedar Jadhav: He has the maximum chance to be selected in the world cup team mainly because of his performance in the ODIs he played. Still, he cannot take this IPL lightly. He must score handsomely or otherwise he may lose his position due to lack of form.

Shreyas Iyer: He got a few chances and then he was dropped. The DC captain has his task cut. Batting at No.3 this IPL, he will look for big scores to impress the selectors.

On the bowling front, Jasprit BumrahMohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav are certainties. Three more bowlers shall be picked up to complete the line up for bowlers.

Bhubaneswar Kumar: Once hailed as the spearhead of Indian attack, Kumar has lost form recently. As the leading bowler of SRH, he must be looking forward to taking wickets while being miser in giving runs. Knowing his potential and talent, I am sure he will finally be on that plane going to England. But he must perform well in this IPL.

Yajuvendra Chahal: The darling of captain Virat Kohli, Chahal had done exceedingly well in ODIs. But of late, his place is no longer certain. He must perform very well in this IPL for RCB to confirm his place.

R Aswin: The KXIP captain is being talked about more for his lack of spirit when he mankaded Jose Butler in an IPL match against RR. What he did is perfectly legal and within rules, but some people will question the spirit of the game as well. A regular in Test matches, he is out of favor in white ball cricket losing his position to Chahal and Kuldeep. A good performance in this IPL may give him chance to play his third world cup.

Umesh Yadav: The RCB pacer will try hard to regain his place in Indian team. What is required is a purple cap performance.

Krunal Pandya: The MI spinning allrounder may be picked because of his miserly bowling and aggressive batting.

Mohammed Siraj: Another RCB pacer fancying his chances. What matters is performance.

Shardul Thakur: The CSK pacer is also looking forward for a great IPL to stake his claim.

As for allrounders, Hardik Pandya is a certainty. One of the two mentioned below will be picked up.

Vijay Sankar: He did well whenever he got chance. few chances he got. Playing for SRK in this IPL, it is to be seen how many chances he gets and how he performs.

Ravindra Jadeja: A true allrounder and a great fielder, Jadeja has better chances to be picked up. Playing for CSK, he will get ample chances to impress the selectors.

Someone else not mentioned above may have a good IPL that can clinch his place in the team. Cricket is a game of glorious uncertainties and anything can happen.

Although the conditions in England will be different than India, IPL performance cannot be overlooked just for this reason.

Best of luck to all the Indian players dreaming to get a place in world cup bound squad.
