INDIAN PREMIER League (IPL) is more than just cricket. At least, after the Modi-twitter-Tharoor episode, it is gaining much more media attention, albeit for wrong reasons.
INDIAN PREMIER League (IPL) is more than just cricket. At least, after the Modi-twitter-Tharoor episode, it is gaining much more media attention, albeit for wrong reasons. Latest report is that BCCI members are going to boycott the, much awaited award ceremony, which is going to be held tonight in Grand Hayatt, Mumbai.

It is not just the BCCI officials but IPL team owners are, reportedly, hesitant about sending their players to the award night.

Apparently, they are unhappy with the the I-T officials investigating their teams and the awards being held at the same time. I-T officials are also looking for links of funds that have been paid to event management company.

The eye catching ceremony of the most prestigious and now most controversial tournament of India will be full of performances by celebrities and cricketers. Karan Johar, the famous Bollywood director, will be hosting the show, while team owners Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta, Priyanka Chopra and some other will be performing on stage.

The Award ceremony will be telecast live on Colors TV channel. There are 22 categories of award, seven member jury consisting of Sunil Gavaskar, Lalit Modi, Javagal Srinath, Simon Taufel, Harsha Bhogle, will pass on there judgment tonight.

IPL chief mentor Lalit Modi announced the list of nominations for different categories. In best batsman category the nominations are, Jacques Kallis, Sures Raina, Murali Vijay and Robin Uthappa and last but the greatest of them all, Sachin Tendulkar.

In best bowler category, Ryan Harris, R Ashwin, P Ojha, H Singh, R Vijay and Zaheer are leading the charts.

There is a special category of viewers choice award, in which viewers will judge the best commentator, friendly cricketer, catch, fielder, stylish player, bowler and batsman.

In statistical awards, maximum runs scored in boundaries, fastest 100 runs and most economical bowler will be awarded.

Cricketers will win awards, the people will enjoy and definitely wait for another round of IPL next season. But the crico-tainment is passing through rough phase and it will take time to get out of the mesh. The spirit of games will win and IPL will go on irrespective of corruption and malpractices.
