IPL Finals 2011: Spinners hold the key between CSK and RCB
The much-awaited IPL 4 2011 final between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings will kick start in a few hours. Spinners in both the teams are bound to play an important role in..
ALL PREVIOUS editions of the IPL finals have been closely fought. Bangalore Royal Challengers and Chennai Super Kings are all geared up to battle it out against one another at Chinnaswamy stadium to lift aloft the newly crafted IPL trophy. All eyes are on the 22 yards strip (pitch) where the final will be played.

Though, the ball is expected to come on to the bat, spin holds the key for both teams. The pitch has seen too much of cricket since the world cup 2011. So, it is sure to have some wear and tear even if it has been prepared especially for the finals. Both the finalists have some good spinners in their ranks to make the ball talk.

Chennai have R. Ashwyn and Suraj Randiv as their frontline spinners in their squad with Suresh Raina putting in some useful spin overs during the game. None of these bowlers are rank square turners of a cricket ball, but just enough to put batsmen in trouble. The last match saw some good bowling by Ashwyn, which also led to the dismissal of IPL 2011's most prolific batsmen Royal Challengers Bangalore Chris Gayle who was trapped leg before. Royal Challengers Bangalore have their skipper, Daniel Vettori, who bowls in the middle of the innings, and is a miser when it comes to conceding runs. Chris Gayle is also a handy bowler with his clever use of spin.

Spinners have always been difficult to score off due to the slow tracks that have been produced in IPL 2011. Dhoni, unlike Vettori, prefers to open the bowling with his finger spinner Ashwyn, who has always been up to the mark, whenever the team needed him the most.

The battle between Gayle and Ashwyn will be one to watch out for. Gayle would be in a revengeful mood after the spinner got the better of him during their last outing. No bowler is able to stifle Gayle when he is going great gun. He has to be dismissed early on to control the flow of innings. Else, he has the potential to run away with the match and make the finals a one-sided affair.

Things are all not so rosy for the batsmen only. May be this time, bowlers may have a final laugh, who knows? Even if spinners go wicketless, they play an important role in containing the batsmen, which would eventually pressurise the batsmen. On the other hand, a bowler bowling from the other end stands a chance of getting a wicket. Both the teams are jam-packed with superb batsmen. The team that plays spin better on the day may prove to be the difference between the two sides on the final day of IPL 2011.
