IPL packages have had no effect on footfalls say Restro bars
Before IPL5 started there were reports that it would not create a buzz amongst TV viewers or those make an effort to combine IPL and a meal or a drink. Though TV viewership has not been dazzling, IPL certainly hasn't been ringing the counters of restaurants and bars in Gurgaon.

SUCH IS the state of affairs that even after offering many drink packages for those wanting to watch a IPL match there has not been even a 1% increase in footfall.

This is somewhat surprising as IPL is definitely followed on a daily basis by many people are keeping track of scores, players and team performance. There is no let up in media coverage either. Also, about a month before it began, there was a certain level of excitement about IPL. But this buzz is not getting reflected in terms of people making beeline to eating joints due to special offers by them.

“There is no difference in number of customers coming in our bar and restaurant because of starting of IPL,” said Vikas of Club 18 in Gurgaon.

Even attractive offers related to drinks has not brought cheer to bars - despite many offering packages on drinks. Restro & Bar Attitude in Gurgaon tried to attract more footfall by offering different schemes and drink packages in the name of IPL but are seeing not even an increase of 1% in customer turnover.

“We have some IPL packages on drinks but there no increase in walk-in customers, not even by 1% as people are not coming just to see IPL match,” Azeem from ‘Attitude’ told

In Gurgaon, many places have put up a big screen for IPL matches so that people can see matches in groups and enjoy. The famous 32nd Milestone has tried it in its Mamma Mia restaurant, but they also are not seeing any special footfalls for this purpose, and have thus provided no other scheme on food and drinks to attract public just to watch IPL.
