THE INITIAL results of Iraq' elections as indicated by media, show that prime minister Nouri al-Maliki and his rival are going neck and neck in a tight contest for the top post in the country.
It is reported that in five of Iraq's 18 provinces, Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's coalition appears to have a narrow edge, though not an outright majority.
Maliki is ahead in two southern provinces and Allawi has received support from Sunnis in north of Baghdad. Allawi's Iraqiya coalition has leveled rigging allegations that Maliki interfered in the Election Commission's work. He has also alleged that soldiers have not been allowed to cast their votes.
