A country which has only seen violence after the US invasion is now showcasing beauty and talent, which the world had forgotten about Iraq. A festival of beauticians and hairdressers in Central Baghdad is being held to bring back some semblance of normalcy in the country. It is one of the many efforts being made by the Iraqis.
Called as the Make-Up, Hairdressing and Fashion Show was organized over the weekend as reported by hurriyatdailynews.com. It was held at a small Sadeer Hotel in Andalus Square and beauticians showcased what they can do with a tinge of colour and a snip of the scissors.
Nandya Hamza Fuad, the organiser said, “The whole dressing up in Iraq is in a good situation but it needs more promotion and attention, and today we want the Arab world and the whole world to know.” It was a mild protest against the conservative people who believed that women should not dress up for anyone other than their own husbands. After the 2003 US invasion of the country, the conservative people attacked beauticians and fashionistas of the country.
From businesses of beauticians being threatened to this festival, a new change was seen in the country. Suad Taha, a participant said, “Just like other girls around the world, Iraqi women have their own beauty and courage. This is a great chance to showcase Iraqi beauty despite the circumstances.”
