Iraq's political stalemate takes a heavy toll of US forces
In elections held in March, no single group has got enough seats to name a new prime minister leading to a political crisis in Iraq. Former Iraqi Prime Minister Allawi is now frustrated as the stalemate for the formation of new government continues.
THE FORMER Iraqi Prime Minister, Ayad Allawi, who has narrowly defeated the sitting Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's Shiite-dominated bloc in the March elections, is a much frustrated person now as the stalemate for the formation of new government continues.

In the elections held in March, no single group has got enough seats to name a new prime minister to form the new government leading to a political crisis in Iraq.

"Regretfully, there is a determination to confiscate the will of the Iraqi people and prevent the Iraqiya bloc from ascending to power," Ayad Allawi said recently.

This has encouraged militants to step up attacks by Shiite militias and Sunni hit squads against security and government officials.

The United States Vice President Joe Biden met the Sunni bloc leader, Ayad Allawi, for beaking the seven-month old political deadlock and reach a compromise that would satisfy all Iraq's rival groups.

It is believed that the Shiite militias having links with Iran have recently attacked the US forces with rockets. For the welfare of the people of Iraq it is essential that a government is formed at the earliest so that work on development projects and improvement in law and order situation is brought about.

Lack of government points out to a vaccum in the political and it gives and opportunity to the radical elements to fish in troubled waters.
