Iron Man 2 earns $327.6 million, breaks Star Trek record
Iron Man 2 cashed in on the good will produced by the first movie, which was a rare happy superhero movie . The first 'Iron Man,' which was released in May 2008, sold $98.6 million in its first weekend and $318.4 million total.

THE IRON Man 2 from the day of release recorded a $133.6 million in North American ticket sales. Iron Man 2 has become one of the highest-grossing motion pictures of the year. In its first twelve days of release overseas, Iron Man 2 has sold about $327.6 million.

Iron Man 2, which stars Robert Downey Jr as the brilliant but emotionally damaged industrialist, Tony Stark and Mickey Rourke as his nemesis, cost about $170 million for production and had an estimated global marketing budget of about $150 million. The movie was produced by Marvel Studios, a division of the Walt Disney Company, and distributed by Paramount Pictures for an 8 percent slice of the revenue.

Iron Man 2 was played on nearly ten thousand screens at a record four thousand and odd theaters and, in three days, already ranks as the fourth highest-grossing picture of 2010. Its gross included 181 IMAX runs, which generated an estimated $10.2 million. That set the 2D IMAX opening weekend record,outdoing Star Trek's $8.5 million from last year.

Some analysts estimated that 3D screenings could have increased the movie’s opening-weekend total by as much as $20 million. This could have been due to the added 3D fee of $3 to $5. However higher ticket prices helped “Iron Man 2” soar above its previous counterpart.
