'Is A R Rahman our greatest music composer ever?'
Saying that A R Rahman is the greatest music composer ever would be injustice to the other outstanding composers who have done remarkable work.
IT IS indeed a privilege to say that India has got some of the best and prominent vocal artists, music composers, lyricists who have achieved tremendous popularity and fame over the years and have made their name in the music Industry. R D Burman, Kishore Kumar, Jatin-Lalit, A R Rahman, Laxmikant Pyarelal, S D Burman etc are some of the most popular music composers and are loved by all.
Last year AR Rahman won double Oscar awards and Golden Globe award for his song ‘Jai Ho’ in the movie, Slumdog Millionaire and made India proud. This year, on Sunday 31st January 2010, the 44 years old music maestro got the Grammy award for ‘Jai Ho’ as best song written for motion pictures at Los Angeles.
“This is insane, God is great again”, he said while accepting the golden gramophones at Staples centre Los Angeles. He shared the award with Jai Ho lyricist Gulzar and Tanvi Shah, who penned the Spanish words of the international hit. Luckily 2009 and 2010 has been lucky For AR Rahman. But if we recall, in the past, there have been several other great Indian music composers who have also won the Oscars and other awards.
Our best wishes are with all the music composers and we hope that they perform well every time and always make India proud.

.Idiot....there are many good composers in india but only rahman consistently gave beautiful music for 18 years which no one has ever done. thats why he is greatest.

It was my personal opinion, even i like AR Rahman, i agree, AR Rahman is first to win oscars and he has never copied the music or whatever.But i just wanted to say that there are other great music composers also so we cannot say that only AR Rahman is the 'best' or genious...just because he got the awards...

.Rahman is definitely one of our greatest composers, if not the only greatest. He created a new revolution in using variety of instruments in a song. The engineering behind songs have made him a genius. No other composer has experimented and succeeded with sounds like he has.

.To say that A.R. Rahman is the greatest is absurd. All of us have our tastes and perhaps Rahman uses a lot of sound effects which could be music or need not be music. If there has to be Oscars for Indian Film Music, I am sure he will rank down. Still One should feel proud that he cracked the Oscar and Grammy. Hats off to him!
.Boys, no other Indian music composer got a chance to compose music for an english movie and how are they supposed to get oscars.. AR is fantastic no doubt, he is true Indian no doubt,superb composer no doubt but please, please do not say that he is the best. Other composers were not given the freedom that ARR enjoys, and they did not possess the technology even to extent of 10% the ARR has. Please wait there will be many OSCAR winners from India in the years to come

.In India there is/was great personalities..ravi shankar,L.subramaniam.L.Shankar,Madhan mohan,Noushad,Saleel Soudary.You can compaare A.R.Rahman with them.Not with RD burman SD burman,Jatin lalit fellows..These guys plagialised music and copied many songs from western and other parts of the world.They didnt innovate anything..They worked as a lath workers.Monotonous work with monopoly.But ARR differs a lot from them.He innovates,Democratize music.So that he is greatest Music composer ever india Had.I got few excellent qualities of handling singers,giving them freedom and creativity...which was rare in india music scene.AR is unique.Eventhough he dont much bothered about awards..it means a lot to indian music composers/
