Karan Johar might know the ropes of the business of film making much more than anyone and he knows that an item number would increase the money value for his film. But will it help the movie is the big question.
BOLLYWOOD IS known for trends and directors overdoing those trends till they become stale and a laughing stock among the various comedy shows in television shows. The same fate would be meted out (it seems) to item songs that are based on the names of girls. Although the first two songs Sheila and Munni were one of their kind and were really big hits, the makers are now overdoing it. Karan Johar announced recently through Twitter that his next big project ‘Agneepath’ will have Katrina Kaif sizzling in yet another item song named chikni chameli.
Agneepath’s trailer is already on television, and the song seems to be an addition as Karan mentioned in his tweet that they would be beginning to shoot the song in a week’s time. The movie that is already building up expectations among the audience due to all the big names and also due to the fact that it is a remake of KJo’s father’s 1990 critically acclaimed film doesn’t require any promotional item song to add value to the project.
Amitabh Bachchan left a rich legacy with his yesteryear film and even Hrithik Roshan is looking refreshing in the remade Agneepath. Sanjay Dutt is looking way apart from his soft Munnabhai avatar and the movie seems to have a strong plot. Then to add an item song named chikni chameli would only lower the seriousness of the film.
However, Karan is known to be a director who believes in making things larger than life. Although we can expect a strong plot and some really good acting from his actors, we cannot expect him to tone down things or even make it remotely normal. Thus, Katrina’s chikni chameli would add to the grandeur of a situation and make it more glamorous, if anything else.
