A report published in the local media at Kolkata says the school drop outs rate a a staggering figure after surveying only 85 students which doesnot even come to 0.01% of the entire student community
AS PER an article that appeared in a Kolkata based daily, which looks more and advertisement than an actual work, mere 85 and that also in a particular rural belt is not what actually happening. The population of West Bengal is quite large and the percentage of people covered does not even satisfy 0.01 per cent.
Had the survey been covered 1 per cent of the population below BPL it could have been factually accepted. As such it cannot be taken as a survey but a mere gimmick to put the Name of the NGO in media for advertisement by the grace of the concerned staff reporter. This practice media should shun is my sincere request.

Such survey report hurts those NGO who are working silently but confidently on the field to eradicate child illiteracy provides free tution and some even runs free schools. To enable these hapless child an opening some NGO even conducts night school with free books and utilities.
It would have been a great help had the survey report concentrated on the reason of drop outs. Due to extensive use of TV there is no parents who think that their children should not be educated. It has been found that from even remote villages girls are walking miles in uniform and reaching schools. It has been found that ranks in board examinations are slowly taken away by village students steadily where expensive tution are not available. Cases have been highlighted in the media that rank holders studying in street lights.
So this report is biased and based on preconceived ideas. Molestation is a juicy subject which the report has used to draw attention. Today awakening has come up and no such cases goes un noticed. Even police may remain mute people takes it seriously. When questioned to a parent about sending their girl to such a distance it was promptly replied who dare touch our girls. So such subject should have been avoided. If case has been found out by NGO the kind hearted reporter should take it up and bring it to light. The honorable woman Chief Minister will not allow the criminal to escape.
Still there is a question which remain unanswered. Why those child are dropping out? The NGO failed to hit the bulls eye. It is not the money or any social stigma. The education method the child could not take it. We need to start a separate education method for this type of child couch them up and bring them to the level and then again send them back to the path again. Village children have been found to have more talent than urban ones due to their close association with nature posses some extra intitution and knows more rural science than their urban counter part. The survey has missed those points.
Any way I request all the NGO who are working in rural Bengal to publish their findings so that government can formulate a proper education plan for these talented rural children instead of this report which is misleading.
