Is India ready to adopt Nano?
Increasing number of car users is likely to result in badly managed traffic and parking. If road infrastructure and public transport systems do not go hand-in-hand with the latest technologies, then we may have to see our own products going waste.

NANO, THE cheapest car of the world is our pride. It is a sign of India’s technological development. But can India adopt it on her roads? Middle and lower middle class would also love to access cars after the coming of Nano. This will result in an increase of approximately 20 to 30 per cent car population on our road, leading to increase in our traffic problems.

Situation of traffic in India, particularly in Delhi and NCR (National Capital Region) is not good currently and after the increase in number of cars, it will be the worse. People of NCR are facing problems in travelling to their destination. In Delhi, about 80 per cent people travel by public transport system and these vehicles cover only 10 to 15 per cent of the road. Ten to 15 per cent people travel by own vehicles, which cover 90 per cent of the road.

In the current scenario, our roads are already overloaded with vehicles. After the induction of Nano, traffic will increase and cover more space on road. Infrastructure of roads and traffic will not increase proportionately and traffic problem will become more and more problematic. This will lead to more common traffic jams and road accidents.

Car parking problem is also a big issue, which will increase after launch of Nano. This is a great problem for both citizens and government. The cheapest cars will be bought by those people also who have no appropriate place of living, then they will park their car on roads and this will also increase the car-parking problem.

India is one of the largest countries and as our consuming power increases in the coming times, we will be able to afford Nano or more than a Nano. But, the question is whether a private transport system is good for India, particularly for Delhi?

We have to think over and make a proper programme for increasing the efficiency of our transport system and then be able to enjoy our technology. Otherwise we can only be proud of our newly developed technologies and watch it getting wasted right in front of us. So, if you are going to buy your car then please think about parking and traffic also.

we should not protest against nano. it will prove jobs for the laborers. it is for the government to build up an alternative transport system where in people would use public transport for common needs. the car shall be driven to weekend party or to the mall.
