Many great people have tried to live by non-violence. Many have succeded, many have not. But if are to survive and thrive as a race then we must shun violence, which may not sound practical.
VIOLENCE CAN be defined as causing hurt of any kind to a person. It includes acts of the smallest bit of hurting to killing of an individual. If we go through the history of mankind, we find that a number of changes in civilisations were brought about due to violence.
The human race has never thought of reducing or dispensing with violence. Indian history produced many great persons like mahatma Gandhi, Gautam Buddha, Mahavira among whom all denounced violence and won the hearts of the people through love. All the attempts for observation of non- violence have not succeeded so far in spite of the great efforts put in this direction by many people. This is an irony of fact that Gandhiji himself became a target of violence. Like him many great leaders such as Rajiv Gandhi, Abraham Lincoln, Indira Gandhi and Benazir Bhutto were killed brutally.
Senseless invasions of other states such as Pakistan’s invasion on India and America’s invasion on Iraq speaks volumes about violence happening in the world. Collectively, we are witnessing organised terrorism. Many a time, it seems that it is much more peaceful than non- violence.Non–violence doesn’t appear to be practical in a world where everyone is greedy and lusty. Non-violence requires moral courage, will power and resolutions. Our path should be truthful and we should not have bad intentions. So if you do all these things only then you will achieve non-violence.
