Is spirituality withering away?
By our own actions we dirty our city and blame the government for lack of cleanliness. Around a dustbin you can see the garbage but not in it. We pursue pleasure instead of happiness and want more instead of being satisfied.
INDIA IS a land with a rich spiritual heritage. It is an ancient land and a very pure one too. India is a land where many religions were born. Only people from our land have managed to achieve the ultimate aim in life – liberation or moksha. From discovering yoga to zero our ancestors have done it all but are we living up to the claim of our ancestors?

Liberation of trade and globalization has opened up new horizons not only for our country’s economy but also our minds. We have increasingly started accepting some Western traditions in our day to day life and accommodated it with our traditions. The mixing though should be only enough so as to make sure that our traditions do not become a burden which obstructs our life. The motto ‘I have only one life so why not enjoy it’ was basically to prevent us from wasting our life by taking unnecessary stress and tension when problems crop up.

It was to motivate us to realise that our life is far bigger and better than shouldering tension about what clothes to wear for the next party. It was about how to face challenges in our lives with a smile on our face rather than a frown. It was to make us smile even in times of unhappiness and for being calm in every situation instead of panicking. But instead of this it is used as an answer to the questions of our conscious mind when we drink, smoke and have a late night party instead of getting ready for next day’s examination or an important assignment. You will find many people know that real happiness is within us but you would never see them relaxed or happy in times of trouble and unhappiness. As it is said talking isn’t doing.

We do everything possible to escape from our troubles irrespective of whether the way is immoral or moral. We lie, we cheat and we steal.

From our own actions we dirty our city and blame the government for lack of cleanliness. Around a dustbin you can see the garbage but not in it. We pursue pleasure instead of happiness, want more instead of being satisfied and care more what people think than about our thoughts and we use our ancient heritage of spirituality in response to the development of developed countries and condition of life there.

But not everything is negative. I have seen thousands of people attend yoga camps or spiritual programmes conducted by today’s spiritual gurus. We all want to elevate our lives, make it better and be happy. We want our country to move forward, make it the world’s might. We want to protect our environment and wild animals. We might not trust the government but have started trusting ourselves. We want our world to become a better place. We do go for spirituality to find true happiness, contentment and lasting happiness. We believe in God and want to help others through thick and thin. Yes violence has increased but we do move towards our own welfare and the world’s through spirituality.
