Ishant Sharma was unplayable in the final day of the Test match: Ajit Wadekar
India recorded a historic win against England at Lords after a gap of 28 years. Ishant Sharma put up a splendid bowling performance in the second innings, scalping seven English wickets.

But, the game would not only be remembered for Ishant's performance, but also Rahane's century and Bhuvneshwar Kumar's six wicket haul in first innings, while the second innings would be remembered for Ishant's performance along with Murli Vijay's, Jadeja's and Bhuvneshwar Kumar's batting heroics, each scoring more than 50 runs to their name. It was a complete team performance by team India.

''India played as one unit this time, where all the players such as Kumar, Jadeja, Rahane, Ishant contributed to the team's success, despite the failures of important players such as Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan. Certainly, this victory is going to boost the players,'' said Ajit Wadekar, former Indian cricketer.

The Indian team showed a lot of character right from the first day where they were put into bat by Alistair Cook on a green top, but the Indian team played good cricket to reach to a score of 295 runs. Kumar once again came to the rescue with the willow scoring 36 runs coming into bat at number nine. The English were hoping to exploit India's weakness against the seamers on a green top but the Indian batsmen stuck to their task.

Wadekar said, ''England team had prepared the pitch to suit their seamers, which boomeranged.'' During the entire Test match, it was Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ishant Sharma who managed to take six and seven wickets respectively in one single innings, whereas none of the English bowlers took any five for.

Ishant, in fact bowled beautifully, troubling all the English batsmen throughout the second innings. He brought back memories of India's tour of Australia, where he bowled a fine spell of bowling at WACAin Australia getting rid of Ponting in the process as well.

Wadekar was all praise for Ishant, he said, ''Ishant was instrumental in helping India win the match. He put up a match winning performance. Though, other bowlers also put up a good display as well, but Ishant was almost unplayable in the fifth day of the Test match.''

While some felt Bhuvneshwar deserved the Man of the Match (Ishant received the MOM), but Wadekar feels otherwise and said that Ishant deserved it more than anyone else. Had it not been for Ishant's fiery spell, the match could have well been won by England or drawn.

With this victory, India's chances of winning the series has increased manifold. Wadekar feels India will win the five Test match series, 3-0. He had predicted the same prior to India's first Test match.
