ISL season 4: Jamshedpur FC player Mehtab Hossain expresses displeasure over the draft system
Mehtab Hossain, who plays as a defensive midfielder in the debutant team Jamshedpur FC in the Indian Super League (ISL), recently expressed his displeasure over the draft system under which players are not permitted to choose or pick their favourite teams.

The 32-year-old footballer who played for his favourite team, the Kerala Blasters in the last three seasons of the league, was bought by Jamshedpur FC for the 2017-18 season of the ISL.

In an exclusive interview with Goal, the player said, "The problem is very bad rules like the draft. Any team can pick you. I wanted to come [to Kerala Blasters] this year also."

"The Kerala Blasters owner talked to me. They wanted to retain me and Sandesh or me and Vineeth. They then decided to retain Vineeth and Sandesh. Because they didn't have an option. Vineeth is from Kerala and Sandesh is the backbone of the defence," he said further.

Remembering the atmosphere of the Kochi stadium where the passion towards football is highly admired by the Kerala Blasters' fans, Hossain said, "I have never seen these type of supporters. I have played for East Bengal for seven years. I like both supporters, they have too much passion. I enjoyed my life, my career and my football for the last three years."

During the interview, he also confessed that Steve Coppell, current coach for Jamshedpur FC, who had served as the chief coach for Kerala Blasters last year, initially wanted him to sign for Kerala Blasters.

But at the end, both the manager and player didn't get their wish to retain Hossain for the team Kerala Blasters.

"It's true that Steve Coppell wanted to retain me for Kerala Blasters. We don't know what happened," said Hossain, who is all set to clash with his former club on Friday.
