'Israeli settlement plans after UN vote is an arrogant move'
Just 24 hours after the United Nations recognized Palestine as a non-member observer state, Israel in a rapid move, has announced that it was authorizing 3,000 new settler homes in the West bank and East Jerusalem. The move is widely interpreted as retaliation for the United nations to recognize a Palestinian state.

ISRAEL HAS also decided to speed up the planning to link Jerusalem with a Jewish settlement, Ma'aleh Adumim, in a move that would cut deep into a future Palestinian state based on 1967 borders. The US and Europe have long asked the Israeli government to not to build there.

Reacting to the new settlement plans by the Israel, an expert on Middle East issues and India-based senior war journalist Dr. Waiel Awwad told this citizen journalist that such a reaction from Israel is natural.  “This is the arrogance and natural reaction by an occupier,” said Dr. Awwad.

He added that international community needs to finish this issue while putting pressure on Israel. “The destiny of a nation is decided by the people of that land. Palestinians will rise and their country will also be established. Israel cannot continue forever with this policy of aggression and expansion on the land. Therefore, it needs more pressure from the international community to sit across the table and finish this headache.

Against the Israeli plans, micro-blogging website Twitter was also full of angry reactions.

A tweeple Mukhtar@ 9jaonserver said, “Dey are born to disturb”.

Andrew Warland @awarland said, “A key problem 4 # Palestine is Israel 's never-ending land grabs thru settlements on occupied territory. Only one reason for it-possession”.

Jeremy Bowen @bowenbbc said, “US response to the # Palestine vote at the # UN and then to # Isreal settlements decision shows weakening inconsistency in US Mideast policy”.

Meanwhile, Europe has severely criticized the latest move by Israel. "If Israel confirms these decisions officially, then it is an exercise in the most cynical, self-obsessed and self destructive policy-making imaginable," said one European diplomat, reported The Guardian.

Israel has condemned the recognition of a Palestinian state, given by the UN after voting, as damaging to peace while also, more privately, expressing concern about how many European countries backed the move.

There were mixed reactions from Palestinian. Palestinian officials said that if UN recognition is not used to renew the dormant peace process - it will lead to more violence.
