ISRO attack: Terror or armature
India is likely to remain a target for the indigenous Islamist terrorism. It is very much evident with the fact that the terrorists have regular help from inside India. Local radicalisation is a major goal of the terrorists.
THE FREQUENT terror attack suggests the possibility of rising terror campaigns in South East Asia especially in India. India continues to face a serious jihadi threat from Pakistan-based terrorist groups. No idea in reality who is to be blamed, either Indian policy or United States interference. None has the capability to restrict the threat. Other extremist and terror groups in the Asian belt are being inspired after regular attacks in Bangalore, Mumbai and other cities in India. So, now should we expect more attacks with high body counts and symbolic targets?

India is likely to remain a target for the indigenous terrorism. It is very much evident with the fact that the terrorists have regular help from inside India. Local radicalisation is a major goal of the terrorists and will be a major political and social challenge for India to get rid of the terrorism in India. The attack on the Indian Institute of Science in December 2005 and the serial blasts in July 2008, have proved that Bangalore is no more a mere shelter for terrorist groups and the IT capital is now one of their major targets.

Once again there was a major security breach at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) centre at Byalalu in Bangalore on Tuesday morning. Two unidentified men opened fired at the CISF personnel present and even they opened fired with a small pistol. They managed to escape as the security guards retaliated. Those men were spotted roaming suspiciously outside the centre. And started open firing as they were interrogated.

Security was in place and the attempt to attack the guards was foiled. No one was injured during the shootout. Police have registered a complaint and launched an investigation into the shootout. But, the international intelligence agencies have long identified ISRO among possible terror targets.

The ISRO centre, 40 kms from Bangalore, contains India's biggest antenna to the skies and houses the Indian Deep Space Network. The 32m wide antenna at the centre has been designed to track signals from deep space missions, including the moon mission Chandrayaan, as well as Mars. The Rs 100-crore facility at Byalalu works as a base station for the Chandrayaan project and is spread over 120 acres. IDSN is the first of its kind project in India, which include a 32-metre Deep Space Antenna, an 18-metre Antenna Terminal, an 11-metre Antenna Terminal, Indian Space Science Data Centre (ISSDC) and a technical services complex.

It provides ISRO the capability to handle deep space missions and also provides cross support to other deep space missions of external space agencies because of its inter-operable features and sophisticated capabilities.

So, ISRO is under the terror radar. This can prove ISRO’s importance to the terror group and may be not to the government.

It is not for ISRO to conclude whether it was a terror attack or an amateurish fire practice with a country pistol. It is for other agencies to find out who they were and why they at ISRO. According to the ISRO the security system is reviewed regularly and whatever is in the recommendation by the Home Ministry are implemented.

All Indian cities need a well-wired intelligence set-up and trained commando force along with a visible surveillance system. For the name sake, the police have heightened security at important buildings/establishments. But, terror strikes at various metros in the country reveals that more than iconic buildings and establishments the populated areas like poorly-guarded hotels, malls, parks, shrines, courts, railway stations and bus stations are prone to terror attacks.

Would all terror history in the country be of any help in preventing and investigating terror attacks in future? All recent attacks were pre planned months ago and the India intelligence had its reports before the date of terror. So, importantly what we need to learn is react to warnings rather repenting and witnessing the death of mankind as terror strikes again.

.The human rights groups should be fuming at this article. They are trying hard to appease Pakistan. Nice article, but the copy-editor should have been more careful about the headline...
