It is 10th Anniversary of World Sparrow Day, urban environment continues to become all the more unfit for sparrows' survival
It is the 10th anniversary of World Sparrow Day on March 20 this year. The observance was initiated by the Nature Forever Society of India under the leadership of Mohammed Dilawar in collaboration with the Eco-Sys Action Foundation (France) and numerous other national and international organisations across the world.

March 20 was designated to raise awareness about the vanishing house sparrow in urban areas. The first World Sparrow Day was celebrated in 2010 in different parts of the world.

The reasons attributed to dwindling number of sparrows are the habitat destruction, lack of insect food and other factors such as style of living and micro-wave towers. There is a need to improve the urban environment for sparrows for mutual benefits.

In Jaipur, bird lovers, animal right groups and media have a running an awareness campaign for the conservation of the house sparrow and common biodiversity. The official website of the observance has suggested some simple easy ways to celebrate Sparrows, such as hosting Kids' Sparrow Party; Celebrating the Special Day with Sparrows; Celebrating Sparrow in your office; Sparrow Celebration at Schools and coordinating the event with the Nature Forever Society.

The site also informs, since 2013 Nature Forever Society has partnered with Wipro this has enabled us to further support the cause of this individuals. Each winner of Wipro- Nature Forever Society Sparrow Award for the year 2019 will receive support of Rs 50,000/- towards their future work.
