It is raining centuries in cricket at the start of New Year
Maximum number of Centuries in the first week of the New Year will indeed be a World Record, one that is difficult to break.

IN THE International Cricket World, probably the 1st Week of the New Year 2012 will be remembered for the ages to come as the Year of single, double and triple tons. As India fights Australia in their second Test match of the series at Sydney, Sri Lanka is playing their third Test match against South Africa.

Australia vs. India, the second Test Match saw Ricky Ponting scoring 134 runs, claiming his 40th century. Michael Clarke (captain) scored his first Triple with 329 runs, remained not out and made his 18th Century. Hussey scored 150 runs and also remained unbeaten.

Ponting and Clarke scored 288 runs for the fourth wicket partnership, a record against India. For India, Gambhir scored 68 while Sachin is still looking for his 100th ton.

The third Test match between South Africa and Sri Lanka also saw some great centuries in 2012. Peterson scored 109 Runs and Kallis scored his career’s second best score of 224 runs; it’s his 41st Test century. AB de Villiers also scored 160 runs. For Sri Lanka, Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene are still batting.

we do expect one or two more centuries by Gautam, Sachin, Sangakkara or Jayawardene. Let us hope for the best. With the maximum number of centuries by the end of both the Test Matches, it will be indeed be a World record, a difficult one to break.
