Let us glance at the life and sporting career of this wonderful player-Roger Federer known as Fedex the world over. One of the best tennis players of all time, Roger was born in 1981 on August 8 in Wolleru, Switzerland.
During his childhood, he showed inclination for both football and tennis. He started taking professional coaching of the game when he was just nine years old. At the age of 14 he was a national champion and was picked up for the Swiss National Tennis Centre in Ecublens.
A dynamic player, Roger began his scintillating rise in ATP ranking in international arena in the year 2004 which saw him winning three Grand slam tournaments; the Australian Open, the Wimbledon Open and the U.S. Open. He occupied the world number one ATP ranking this year, which he dominated for a long time.
To date, Roger has won 14 Grand slam tournaments, which includes 5 Wimbledon, 3 Australian, 5 U.S. Open and one French Open. He is a player with all sorts of shots in his armoury. A base line player, Roger had a dream run in Wimbledon where he won five consecutive tournaments until another prominent player Rafael Nadal defeated him in 2008. His favourite play court is grass.
Roger has broken numerous records and has been bestowed with prestigious international awards. In 2007 he equaled the record of 5 consecutive wins at Wimbledon. In 1998 he was bestowed with the World Junior Tennis Champion of the year Award. He has won Laureus World Sportsman of the Year Award consecutively from 2005 to 2008. Besides, he has won many other prestigious awards.
