It would be better to feminise schools rather than masculinising women staff
Every time a fatal accident or a heinous crime occurs in a school, often governance advises that increasing the women staff in schools will curb the campus crime.
It has been seen that such patchwork and off-the-cuff solutions attract more crime since along with children the increased strength of women staff becomes the target.

The governance should rather curb the crime through police reforms and effective enforcement of the existing laws. Bad governance leads to increased crime rates equally on men and women. Using women as a shield against crime is not a good idea. It is like saying the shield will bear the crime onslaught to keep others safe.

However, the recent murder of class II student did not occur on the way to school but in the school itself where a great majority teachers and head teachers are female. It has proved that in no way the mere presence of more females has been able to foil the crime. It needs to be marked that the child was handed over safely by the parent to the school that is full of women staff.

There are already mechanisms like PTAs and parents' representatives on the school management committees in which parents are ridiculed and their self-esteem is hurt. Safety and preserving human dignity are the two essential human rights to be safeguarded by all, right from the top to the bottom of governance pyramid which seem to be missing.

The whole of issue of crime curbing has been politicised by playing a blame game. The parents are blaming the school, the school as usual as an institutional habit is blaming the parents and children, the society is blaming the police and governance, and governance is telling the society that better create a student transportation system with more women staff. All kinds of suggested self-protection ploys have turned into gimmicks since no one is trying is to remove the root cause.

Time and again, a student's loss of life in a school has ultimately resulted into status quo being maintained and things getting back to the same old grind until the next similar crime occurs with more vengeance, and another short parental and public outrage subdued by political games.

Many research studies suggest that the role reversal ploys ultimately lead to women behaving like men and turning competitive and aggressive or non-nurturing. A number of educational scientists and researchers have suggested that it would be better to go for feminist pedagogy and feminising school education by looking at the schools as the community of learners whose left and right hemispheres of the brain are equally developed. It is the whole brain and cooperative learning techniques that will be helpful in creating an equitable learning environment and schools to reform society.
