The country is celebrating Hindi Divas today. September 14 each year is celebrated as Hindi Day in India. It was on this date in 1949 that Hindi was adopted as the official language of Constituent assembly in 1949.
In 1965, the Government of India, gave the directive to use Hindi as the sole working language of the central government offices but later English was allowed to be used along with Hindi. Hindi is also called as a ‘link language’ of India.
Though the word ‘Hindi’ has its origin in Persian but Sanskrit is the mother of Hindi.
