It's official: Narendra Modi to take oath as PM on May 26
Bending down on his knees on the steps of Parliament House, the PM-elect Narendra Modi entered into the historic Central Hall of the Parliament for BJP parliamentary party meeting and he was unanimously elected as the leader of the BJP parliamentary board. The BJP veteran L.K. Advani had proposed his name for the post and senior BJP leaders expressed their support in Modi's favour.

After being elected as NDA's leader, in his half-hour speech the Gujarat strongman said, "We are here in the temple of democracy. We will work with all purity not for the designation but for the people of the country."

Referring to his senior party colleague Advani's lines that he had done a favour to the party by taking up the responsibility, Modi failed to control his tears and broke down. Making the atmosphere emotional and recollecting himself with a glass of water he said, "Can serving the mother be a favour? A son is only dedicated to serve the mother, rather the party has done a favour to him offering the responsibility."

Holding his Modian style he said that the election result has increased people's faith in democracy and has brought a new hope among people that this new system can fulfil their aspirations. The government will work for the poor, youths and for the safety and security of women. This is the time for new hope and strength, the new government will work hard and he will meet the MPs again in 2019 with a report card.

Promising to present a report card of his government to the people in 2019, he said, "I will try to live up to the expectations of people."

"I am very optimistic man and only an optimistic man can bring optimism in the country," he stated in his half-hour speech.

After the formalities of electing Modi as BJP and NDA's leader got over, NDA leaders led by Advani went to meet president Pranab Mukherjee to convey the message of their support to Narendra Modi-led government.

Later Narendra Modi met Pranab Mukherjee at Presidential palace and presented his claims to form the new government. After meeting with the president Mukherjee, Narendra Modi came out and addressed the waiting media, where he announced that he will take the oath of the Prime Minister's office on May 26 at 6 p.m.
