It's time to pick the team for World Cup 2019: My choice of team
After winning the ODI series against the West-Indies, it's now time for India to pick their best team for the ICC World Cup 2019.

There should be no more experiments and the selected team should continuously play the remaining 13 matches before the ICC World Cup 2019. This is also not the time for resting or rotation because all the players are generally rhythm players and playing continuously only improves their performance. We have seen how resting Bhubaneswar Kumar affected his game. He finally found his form only in last ODI at Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday.

According to me top four batsmen namely Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli and Ambati Rayudu are fixed. Similarly, two front line pacers Bhubaneswar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah are final. This finalizes six players for the World Cup squad. As the tournament is being held in England, I think one spinner will play and that will be a tossup between Kuldeep Yadav and Yajuvendra Chahal. I think both should be picked.

Out of remaining four players, we need one wicket keeper. Dhoni hasn't been showing much promise if we scrutinize his performance for last two years. In ODI you can't pick a wicket keeper purely on wicket keeping point of view. Both times India lifted the World Cup trophy the team had wicket keeper batsmen. While in 1983 Syed Kirmani was there, in 2011 Indian team's wicket keeping batsman was MS Dhoni. Thus, for the 2019 ICC World Cup we will also need a wicket keeping cum batsman. Rishabh Pant is more a batsman and less a keeper. Dinesh Karthik is inferior in both aspects. My choice would be Riddhiman Saha that is of course, if he is fully fit, or else Pant would be my alternative choice. That leaves us to pick another three players.

If we recall the team structure of the 1983 World Cup winning team, we had many all-rounders like Kapil Dev, Madan Lal, Mohinder Amarnath etc. Similarly the 2011 World champion squad too had many all-rounders such as Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Virendra Sehewag etc. So to win the 2019 ICC World Cup both Hardik Pandya and Kedar Jhadav should be picked. Pandya can be considered as a bowling all-rounder while Jhadav as a batting all-rounder. This completes the list of 10 players for the team. In English conditions a third pace bowler is required who could be either Khalil or Shami. I am ruling out Jadeja because he would not be an ideal choice in English conditions.

So the final team should be Rohit Sharma, Sikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Ambati Raidu, Kedar Jhadav, Hardik Pandya, Pant/Saha, Bhubaneswar Kumar, Kuldip Yadav, Khalil Ahamed, Jusprit Bumrah, Yajuvendra Chahal, Mohammad Shami, KL Rahul, if fourteen players are allowed, or else both Pant and Saha can be chosen if fifteen players are to be selected.
