Jagadguru Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Shankaracharya passes away, PM Modi condoles seer's demise
Jagadguru Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Shankaracharya passes away at 82 who was admitted to a hospital near Kamakshi Amman temple in Kanchipuram, breathed his last on 28th during early morning hours due to breathing problems.

His followers have been saddened by the death the seer who is believed to have attained Siddhi a few months prior to his death.

Condoling the seer's demise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweted, "Deeply anguished by the passing away of Acharya of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam Jagadguru Pujyashri Jayendra Saraswathi Shankaracharya. He will live on in the hearts and minds of lakhs of devotees due to his exemplary service and noblest thoughts. Om Shanti to the departed soul." He described as a frontrunner of 'innumerable community service initiatives. He nurtured institutions which transformed the lives of the poor and downtrodden'.

Varun Gandhi, Member Pariament of BJP along with the seer's image tweeted saying, "Parampujya Jagadguru Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Maharaj ji attained samadhi today as he left his physical body. He was a father figure to me: a great source of strength and guidance always, and had presided over my wedding. May he watch over all of us forever..."

Jagadguru Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Shankaracharya (1935–2018) was the 69th Shankaracharya Guru and head of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham, who was nominated by his predecessor, Chandrashekarendra Saraswati Swamigal, as his successor in 1954 and was given the pontifical title Sri Jayendra Saraswathi. However, nearly forty years after being chosen as a successor, Jayendra Saraswathi succeeded Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi in 1994.

The Kanchi Mutt, one of the oldest Shaivaite Mutts in the country runs many schools, eye clinics and hospitals.
