Jagan Mohan Reddy resigns from Congress
Speculations were rife that Jagan may announce his resignation from the Congress and head to forming his own party, while resignation has been filed, a new party or not is something to wait for
JAGAN MOHAN Reddy, YSR's son, has finally decided to call it quits and has resigned from Congress party. He sent his resignation to the Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh assembly on Monday through a fax. However, Jagan has not sent his resignation in the prescribed format, and in all likelihood his resignation can’t be accepted.

This step on the part of Jagan is seen as a counter attack on the Congress high command which has been trying to screw him for quite some time for his rebellious attitude defying party norms. Speculations were rife that Jagan may announce his resignation from the Congress today as the first step towards launching his own party, and he has done the same.

According to sources, Jagan's mother Vijayalakshmi too has decided to resign as a member of the State Assembly. She was elected unopposed from Pulivendula constituency in Kadapa district in December last year, following the death of her husband YSR in a helicopter crash.

It is a known fact that Jagan has been at war with the Congress since after the death of his father, YSR, and this tussle grew tense over the last few weeks. TV channel, Sakshi, owned by Jagan, even went on to attack senior Congress leaders including the PM, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.

Jagan and his followers are of the firm belief that he is the real political heir to the legacy of his father who died last year, but Congress thinks the other way round and feels that Jagan should act according to the party lines.

However, since Jagan has decided to quit, a new political drama is inevitable in Andhra Pradesh and one thing is for sure- it is not going to be easy for the ruling Congress party in the state as well as at the Centre.
