Rath Yatra is one of the biggest Festival of Indians which associated with Lord Jagannath. 2010 Rath Yatra celebration has started form July 13 .
Rath Yatra is celebrated for the deities Jagannath , Balarama, Krishna and Subhadra. The annual journey of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balarama, and their sister Subhadra is commemorated to their aunt’s temple, the Gundicha Temple by Rath Yatra. In this festival, Raths are pulled by thousands of pilgrims. The huge processions accompanying the chariots play devotional songs with drums, tambourines, trumpets etc. It is also telecasted live on many Indian channels and International channels.

Ratha Yatra is held at Puri in the state of Orissa, India. The festival commemorates Lord Jagannath’s annual visit to his aunt’s home. Puri is land of Lord Jagannath and famous city of Orissa with special importance of art, literature, architecture and tradition in India and across the world. Puri is also referred as Jagannath Puri.
The Rath yatra 2010 will be held on July 13 on Tuesday. The three deities Lord Jagannath, Lord Balarama, and their sister Subhadra will leave to Gundicha temple on three rathas known as Nandi ghosh ratha, Thaaladhwaja ratha, and Darpadalan ratha. At Gundicha temple, Lord Jagannath, Lord Balarama, and their sister Subhadra stay for 9 days. The jubilant celebrations are marked in Gundicha temple on Hera Panchami July 16, 2010 – Ashada Shukla Panchami.
On 10th day of chariot festival, Lord Jagannath will return to Sri Kshetra. This return journey of Rath yatra is known as Bahuda yatra which will be held on July 21, 2010. On July 22, 2010 Sunavesha festival is celebrated. This day is also known as Jagannath Maha Ekadashi. To satisfy Lord Jagannath, fast is observed by devotees on Ekadasi day. Pohandi festival is held to three deities – Jagannath, Balbhadra, and Subhadra on Ashada Shukla Chaturdasi. the end of Jagannath Rath Yatra is marked by Pohandi festival in Puri.
