The Agarwal community of Jaipur is celebrating the 5137th birth anniversary of Maharaja Agrasen today on October 5 at Agarwal College, Jaipur. The celebrations on the college premises will last for five days. In the evening, a procession to mark the festival will be taken out from Agrawal Seva Sadan at Chand Pole.
The people of Agarwal and Agrahari community took bath early in the morning and went to the temples to worship Lord Vishnu and King Agrasen. Later, they gathered at Agrawal College for religious and cultural events dedicated to King Agrasen. Also, a special feast is being organized by people of this community at a large scale, besides giving donations to various social organizations and needy people.
Maharaja Agrasen has been the legendary Solar Dynasty king of ancient India
and the originator of the Agarwal and Agrahari community in India. He ruled the region called Agraha, now in Haryana
He had 18 children and accordingly Agarwal community has 18 Gotras called Nangal, Singhal, Tayal, Tingle, Garg, Bansal, Bindal, Bhandal, Dharan, Jindal, Kansal, Kuchhal, Madhukul, Airan, Goyal, Goyan, Mangal, and Mittal. He is also known for his compassion towards all living things and refused to sacrificing animals in yajnas.
He visited lord Vishnu temple in the city of Kashi and asked for a boon of his community for becoming good traders.
