Jaipur celebrates Sindhi Bhasha Diwas; promotion of Sindhi language and culture stressed
In Jaipur, Sindhi Bhasha Diwas was celebrated at Chamber of Commerce on MI Road by organising a seminar at which the promotion of Sindhi language amongst children can lead to preservation of Sindi culture or Shindhiyat was envisaged.

At the seminar, it was articulated that new generation of Shindhis must learn their language with love and devotion and remain in touch with the great Sindhi culture and its glorious history.

The leading figures of Sindhi community and Sindhi writers attended the seminar which was organized jointly by the Rajasthan Sindhi Academy in Jaipur and Bhartiya Sindhu Sabha.

One may recall that it was on 10th April 1967, at the time of inclusion of the Sindhi language as one of the Indian languages in the Constitution, former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had said, "Hindi is my mother tongue and Sindhi is my mother's sister tongue and so is my Mausi's tongue."

Sindhis are proud of their language and culture and Sindhi community across the globe are making efforts to preserve their language and rich culture. In India, since this language has been recognised in the Eighth schedule on 10th April 1967 in the Indian Constitution and is among the 22 constitutionally recognized languages, it needs to be preserved and promoted through various means.

The Sindhis have been demanding from the BJP government and Prime Minister Modi to respect the feelings and emotions of Sindhi people for promotion of their language, and so, a Sindhi language channel should be provided.

Media plays an important role in promoting and popularising a language and a Sindhi channel can be helpful for making children of this generation to learn Sindhi and sing songs in their mother tongue. It is being pressed upon that the government must start at least a radio station dedicated to Sindhi language.

My post-graduation batch mate Dr HK Sahajwani has been spearheading a campaign under the group Sindhi Saathi for a 'SINDHI TV CHANNEL 24x7' and has petitioned to the Prime Minister of India to concede to their genuine demand.
