Jaipur celebrates two-week long Janmashtami festival at Govind Deo Ji temple
In Jaipur, on the eve of Shri Krishna Janmashtami, a procession was taken out with great fanfare to celebrate the festival as the culmination of two-weak festival at the local Govind Deo Ji temple.

AT THE temple of Govind Deo Ji in the city, members of royal family of Jaipur worshipped first and then the procession, popularly called 'Shri Krishna Shobha Yatra' started from the temple.

On August 9, as usual, Gwal Jhanki was opened at 5.45 pm, Sandhya Jhanki at 6.30 pm and Shayan Jhanki at 9.30 pm. The devotees streamed to the temple in hoards to have Darshana of the Jhankis put up on the occasion.

In fact, on the temple premises, the celebrations started much ahead of the birth anniversary day of Lord Krishna. It was on July 25 that the idols of Radha and Govind ji were placed in a specially decorated swing to the tunes of Shehnai and the bass of drums to herald the beginning a two-week long festival.

For two weeks, thousands of Krishna devotees thronged everyday to celebrate the festival to enjoy devotional songs, poetry recitals, instrumental music and dances in both classical and folk formats.

The temple is located in the City Palace complex and the image of Lord Krishna was brought from Vrindavan here by Raja Sawai Jai Singh II, the founder of Jaipur. The devotees believe that Lord Krishna's image in the temple looks exactly like him.
