On World Photographic Day, August 19, a workshop on digital photography was organised at Bal Bhawan in Jaipur in which the senior students of local schools took part. The workshop was conducted by the city-based nature photography expert Raj Kumar Chauhan, reported Rajasthan Patrika.
World Photography Day (WPD) is observed to mark the invention of Louis Daguerre and Joseph Nicephore Niepce that led to photographic film treatment process and printing photographs and that was presented before public on August 19, 1839 in Paris. The process was widely accepted and it gained popularity. Soon daguerreo-type studios opened in many cities of the world
to wash films in darkrooms and produce prints.
A modern era of photography as a profession was initiated with the French government announcing the invention as a gift 'Free to the World'. On the occasion of the observance, on its home page, World Photographic Day face book wrote, "World Photography Day is all about celebrating photography. Whether you see yourself as an Amateur, Hobbyist or Professional, August 19th is a day to embrace your love of photography."
In respect of the modern photography, it has been rightly said by Korske Ara, "More than ‘just’ a picture and more than ‘just’ art. A photograph is a memory frozen in time, emotions and all."
According to World Photography Day facebook page, the observance is about celebrating the ability we have to communicate though this powerful visual medium. Now, almost every mobile has a camera, and anyone can click photographs and celebrate this wonderful visual art by capturing images of special moments and their memories.
