Jaipur commemorates Olympic Day with youth weightlifting championship
On the Olympic Day, June 23, various cities in over 160 countries participated with sporting and adventure events to commemorate the day.

In Jaipur, the District Weightlifting Federation organised a youth weightlifting championship in the evening for the children up to the age of 17. The event started at 4 pm after recording the weights of participants at local Chaugan Stadium in the city.

According to organizers of the observance (olympic.org), the Olympic Day is much more than just a sports event, it is a day for the world to get active, learn about Olympic values and discover new sports. Based on the three pillars move, learn and discover national Olympic committees organised sports, cultural and educational activities throughout the world.

Thomas Bach, IOC President, holds that every year, Olympic Day allows the whole world to unite behind the Olympic dream.

The observance has the slogan "Move! Learn! Discover!" where in "Move" refers to all sorts of physical activity for people of all ages and abilities;  "learn" stands for affording great opportunity to look at the contribution of sport to global social issues that can affect your community, such as education, health promotion, HIV prevention, women's and girls' empowerment, environmental protection, peace building and local community development.

On the other hand, "Discover" is all about inviting and encouraging people to try new sports and activities that they have never done before. It is also an opportunity to introduce them to sports which they may not have easy access to or are lesser known in their region.
