Jaipur devotees throng Amber's Shila Mata temple on Navratri festival
The nine-day festival of Navratri began in Jaipur on September 25 with devotees thronging Amber's Shila Mata temple at the fort outside the city. Thereafter, the ritual of Kalash Sathapana was done in various houses to perform daily worship of the Feminine Divine, recitation of Durga Saptsati Chalisa and fasting for nine days.
Many devotees were seen crawling on the way to the famous temple at the Amber Fort as a demonstration of their devotion to Devi Mata.

Navaratri festival happens to be one of the most auspicious and unique period of devotional rituals and worship of Shakti or absolute creative energy in Jaipur. The local Bengali community becomes most active during this period.

Shila Mata Temple is an astounding temple dedicated to the goddess Kali and built by Maharaja Man Singh who was a great devotee of goddess Kali and worshipped the goddess for victory during battles. This temple is located in the famous Amber Palace complex. At the doorway to the temple an image of Ganesha carved from a single piece of coral is worth seeing.

Amber was the capital of the ruling Kachhawa clan of Amber, before the capital was shifted in the plains to present day Jaipur. The construction of the fort was started by Raja Man Singh and completed by Sawai Jai Singh-I with the use of red sand stone and white marble.
