Jaipur gets ready to observe World Heritage Day
The local newspapers of Jaipur are carrying special articles on the heritage sites of Jaipur and the tourism department is promoting heritage tourism by organising heritage walks and photography sessions. In Jaipur, World Heritage Day is going to be celebrated on April 18.

In fact, the observance is officially called by UNESCO as "International Day for Monuments and Sites" but is popularly known as the World Heritage Day. The observance was approved by the 22nd UNESCO General Conference in 1983.

According to UNESO, the aim of the observance is 'to encourage local communities and individuals throughout the world to consider the importance of cultural heritage in their lives, identities and communities, and to promote awareness of its diversity and vulnerability and the efforts required to protect and conserve it'.

On this day, across the world, many events are held such as conferences, symposia, exhibitions, photography competitions, excursions, press conferences, the awarding of prizes, issuing press releases, publishing magazine articles and projecting films, among others as per the UNESCO.

Underlining the importance of the observance UNESCO states, "Heritage is our legacy from the past, what we live with today, and what we pass on to future generations. Our cultural and natural heritage are both irreplaceable sources of life and inspiration."
