Jaipur girls' school celebrates Republic Day with improvised indoors Lezim drill
The State level Republic Day was observed in Jodhpur which was attended by Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje. In Jaipur, due to heavy rains, the district administration and institutions had organised the celebratory functions indoors.

However, the security was tightened in Rajasthan for the celebrations and Quick Reaction Teams kept the vigil all over to deal with any eventuality.

I attended the programme at girls' school in my neighbourhood wherein after the flag hosting, a function was organised in a small hall inside the school.

The highlight of the function was the Lezim performance by the girls believed to have its origin in Maharashtra, India. Currently, Lezim is performed across India and many schools have introduced as drill exercise.

The girls improvised the drill moves in the short area in the hall as a rhythmic exercise and simple folk dance performance steps on the beats of small musical instrument with jingling cymbals.

As we know that a Lezim is a wooden idiophone with jingling cymbals which each performer uses this while dancing in simple rhythmic steps.

However, this form of dance is frequently used in Maharashtra as a fitness drill by schools, performance in public, displays at functions and skill to enhance kinesthetic intelligence in institutions because it involves many calisthenic moves and can be quite vigorous and strenuous.
