Most areas of Jaipur have been inundated due to heavy downpour for two days bringing normal life to a standstill. In the last two days a record of 150 mm rain has taken place.
SIX PERSONS have been reported dead in Jaipur due to rains. Not only have schools closed, but also people stranded on roof-tops in many areas of the walled city area, have been reached with food packets and water bottles.
Due to water logging, erratic electricity supply and dilapidated condition of roads - even relief work by some local NGOs has been hampered. The rescue teams formed by the district administration are going to rescue those marooned in the water-logged areas of the city.
I remember that back in 1982, similar kind of conditions had occurred due to a heavy downpour. This time around 100 new colonies, all the slums and most of the walled city have been inundated.
Most residents in my neighborhood have complained of poor management by Jaipur Municipal Corporation. Today, with a little respite from the rain, some families have started to pump out water collected in their houses.
