Jagid community of Jaipur celebrated Vishwakarma Jayanti on February 12 by organizing special pooja at Vaishali Nagar and Malviya Nagar Vishwakarma temples.
Also, a vehicle rally, devotional singing programme and tabloid diaplay marked the occasion. Various organizations like Jadid Sena Hindustan, Jagid Yuva Shakati and Vishwakarma Welfare Society participated in various programmes that marked the festival, reported local papers.
However, most craftmen, industrial units and technical institutions celebrate Vishwakarma Jayanti in September and a day after Diwali. The Day is celebrated to worship Vishwakarma - the divine architect who constructed the holy city of Dwarka where Lord Krishna ruled, the Maya Sabha of the Pandavas, and was the creator of many weapons for the gods. It is believed that he wrote Sthapatya Veda - the scripture that explains mechanics and architecture.
Much-celebrated Vishwakarma Jayanti is observed on the Kanya Sankranti Day. And, in 2014, it will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 17 as the presiding deity of all craftsmen and architects. These days, even a computer, TV or telephone is also worhipped on Vishwakarma Jayanti.
