Jaipur observes World Thyroid Day
The Seventh Annual World Thyroid Day (WTD) was observed in Jaipur by organizing a short seminar recently to increase awareness of thyroid health, reported Rajasthan Patrika. Noted medical experts addressed the seminar as key speakers stressed the need for thyroid health education and prevention programmes.

According to a rough estimate, around 750 million people worldwide are affected by thyroid disorders. The WTD, held on May 25, is meant to raise awareness about thyroid disorders that have become common worldwide stressing the need for early detection and treatment.

According to medical science, the thyroid gland produces hormones that regulate the body's metabolism and influence every organ in the body. Often thyroid disorder symptoms are in the form of fatigue, depression, forgetfulness, irritability, nervousness, and muscle weakness.

If thyroid disorders become chronic, they can lead to thyroid cancer, which is rapidly increasing due to lack of awareness of the disease, its early detection and treatment, informed the experts.

As preventive measure, healthy behaviours such as nutritious foods, regular exercise, managing stress, and sleeping adequately have been recommended.

Moreover, iodine is a vital nutrient for proper thyroid function since organ's hormones are comprised of this nutrient. It is said that the iodine deficiency is the main cause of thyroid disorders.
