Jaipur to celebrate World Photography Day with a week-long photo exhibition
To mark the World Photography Day (WPD) in Jaipur to be celebrated on August 19, a photo exhibition of noted local photographers will be held at Jawahar Kala Kendra in the city. The exhibition will remain open for week for the photography lovers to visit and interact with photographers to learn about the intricacies of photography.

According the organizers, WPD is about celebrating the art and skill to communicate though powerful visual medium of photography. With the digital photography, this art has revolutionized the way we see the world and pictures can be posted instantly across the world.

WPD has its origin in the invention of the photographic processes developed by Joseph Nic?phore Ni?pce and Louis Daguerre in 1837. It was on August 19, 1839, the French government purchased the patent and announced the invention as a gift "Free to the World".  Consequently, August 10 was chosen as the date for celebrating WPD.

Now, on WPD, a global online gallery is organized with best of photographs which is visited by the photography lovers from all over world. This has provided a global out-reach to WPD.

Also, to promote photography, the World Photography Organization (WPO) takes up various initiatives for amateur and professional photographers like annual Sony World Photography Awards, World Photography Festival, World Photography Collection, World Photography Focus Programme, etc.
