Jaipur to host conference on "Ability Continuum, Diversity, Access and Inclusion: Multiple Possibilities and Prospects"
A three-day conference will be held on the theme "Ability Continuum, Diversity, Access and Inclusion: Multiple Possibilities and Prospects" from November 9 to 11 in Jaipur to discuss various issues related to special education.

The conference will be coordinated by 'Disha: A Resource Center for Multiple Disabilities' in the city.

The conference assumes a special significance in India since according to WHO, approximately 15 per cent of the world's population consists of differently abled people or persons with special needs mostly living in low and middle-income countries.

"With the agenda of education and opportunities for all, there is need for a paradigm shift from redressing human rights through remedial and compensatory designs to preventing problems through holistic and inclusive designs of human development," states the concept note of the conference.

In India, with the emergent rights for persons with special needs, differently abled people or Divangjan and legal protection of their rights through disability Acts, there is a need to explore afresh the ability continuum of people for their relevant education, development and employment.

According to the event organisers, the conference will serve as a catalyst for positive change and a springboard for collaborations with partners in education, business, public sector, corporate sector, civil society organisations and social service. The conference will provide a forum for individuals and organisations to expand their knowledge and perspectives, and an opportunity to increase community resources through the synergy of collaboration.

In the light of the foregoing, the conference will work as the platform to discuss interventions to fulfill the needs of differently abled people and meet the challenges they encounter.

The sub-themes and topics of interest for submission of paper include the developmental disabilities and special education; mental health and intellectual impairment; aging and disability relationship; technology and disability employment; and policy, ethics, human rights and development agendas regarding disabilities. However, similar other issues can be included by the contributors to make the conference broad based, inform the conference organisers.
