Jamia Millia Islamia University to organize workshop on biostatistics in Delhi
A one-day event "Scientific Programme & Workshop on Biostatistics" is going to be organized on 7th September at the Jamia Millia Islamia University in New Delhi to promote research in dentistry and life sciences. Biostatistics is the application of statistics to a wide range of topics in biology and for research work.

According to the organisers of the workshop, the event is going to be intensive and is meant for training Faculty members, Researchers and Postgraduates in the field of Dental, Medical and Allied fields on topics related to Biostatistics. The venue of the workshop will be the Library Hall at the University's Faculty of Dentistry, it is reported.

The Programme will consist of didactic lectures by eminent academicians and hands on workshop on SPSS package for data analysis specifically designed towards teaching basic biostatistics to the participants.

The sessions will be held on Design and Sample Size Exploration; Hypothesis Testing & Descriptive Analysis; Parametric Methods (t-test, Paired t-test, ANOVA) and Non Parametric methods; Measures of Association and Kappa Statistics; and Hands on training on said methods using SPSS.

The workshop of its own kind to promote research in dentistry is being jointly organized by the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Faculty of Dentistry, Centre for Culture, Media & Governance of Jamia Millia Islamia.

As an applied statistics area, biostatistics encompasses the design of biological experiments, especially in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, agriculture, fisheries, and life sciences. 

The researchers are required to accomplish the tasks of the collection, summarisation, and analysis of data from their experiments; interpretation of data using statistical techniques; and drawing inference to report the results.
