Jammu observes bandh to protest midnight crackdown on Baba Ramdev, supporters
Jammu is observing a partial bandh today to protest against the police crackdown on Baba and his supporters at Ramlila ground in New Delhi last week.
ALL POLITICAL, business and social organisations in Jammu have extended support for Baba Ramdev’s cause and joined today’s bandh, called by Yoga guru Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali Yog Samiti in Jammu. Also, very few people have turned up at government offices today while most of the markets remain closed because of the bandh. However, all educational institutions remain open.

“There will be a bandh and chaka jam tomorrow in protest against the New Delhi action and in support of Baba Ramdev’s Satyagrah against corruption and blackmoney,” said Dinesh Sharma, in-charge of Patanjali Yog Samiti, Jammu yesterday, as quoted by PTI. He noted that the decision to go on bandh is a message to Baba that Jammu people are with him and support his fight against corruption and black money. Sharma also clarified that the agitation was not against any political party, and that they were just demanding strict action against corruption and the black money hoarded in banks abroad.

Earlier on Wednesday, Jammu unit of Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) organised a demonstration in support of today’s bandh. The procession was led by Munish Sharma, state President of BJYM. The protesters shouted slogans demanding that the government should implement measures to deal with black money issue. Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Panthers Party (JKNPP), yesterday, burnt effigies of various politicians, including the prime minister, in Purani Mandi, as mark of protest against Baba’s eviction from New Delhi last week.
