Jaswant's book creates ruckus in BJP
After the defeat of BJP in the 15th Parliamentary elections, the party has been continuously marred with one issue after another. The fire in BJP hasn't doused completely and now there is another issue which has rocked BJP's rank and file
AT TIMES it happens when you are in rough weather you endeavour to overcome it but instead, weather keeps on getting inclement. This is what is happening in India’s second largest political party Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is continuously marred with one issue after another since its defeat in the 15th parliamentary election. Top brass is refusing to take all blame for the unexpected defeat and every now and then other senior leaders are raising their voices either through media or in meeting against the top rank.

BJP’s top command is looking for scape goat to settle the issue. Keeping this thing in mind they asked BC Khanduri to resign from the chief ministership of Uttarakhand owing to party’s poor performance in the state, a thorough disciplinarian and true to the spirit of Indian army, he resigned without any furore but when the same BJP asked the former Chief Minister of Rajasthan Vasundhara Raje to step down from the leader of the opposition, she refused to oblige and revolted against the decision.

The fire in BJP hasn’t doused completely and now there is another issue, which has rocked BJP’s rank and file. A book written on the father of Pakistan Mohd Ali Jinnah by former foreign minister Jaswant Singh is dividing many senior BJP leaders concerning the content and glorification of Jinnah. The book “Jinnah-India, Partition, Independence” has touched many controversial issues related to the partition of the country and portrays Jinnah as one of the greatest leaders; it also blames the first Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru for the partition of the country. Further, Jaswant Singh has also blamed Iron Man of India Sardar Vallabhai Patel for his self centric approach during freedom struggle.

The party president Rajnath Singh and another senior party leader Dr Murli Manohar Joshi has expressed their fury against the book and didn’t support Jaswant’s effort to glorify Jinnah. Rajnath Singh said, “The important role of MA Jinnah in the division of India, which led to a lot of dislocation and destabilisation of millions of people is too well known.” Murli Manohar Joshi also criticised the book and said, “Mr Jinnah might be an idol, an icon for Pakistan, but he can never be an idol or an icon for us Indians.”

BJP’s trusted ally Shiv Sena has also hurled salvo on Jaswant Singh for praising Jinnah. Ruling Congress Party has expressed its agony on the book and said how come Jaswant Singh ignores Nehru and Patel’s role in building India. It also said that another Muslim Maulana Azad has also been ignored completely who was against partition though he was a Muslim.
