LATE NIGHT RIVALS Jay Leno and David Letterman star in a Super Bowl commercial that was filmed in New York last week secretly. Reportedly, David has written his lines himself for the commercial. Jay Leno, Oprah and David were kept in a secret green room where the commercial was shot.
So, how did old adversaries Jay and Dave behave together? “It was very friendly, very professional, totally cordial,” says a source. “You could tell these were two guys who have known each other for a long time.”
It took just 30 minutes to shoot the 15-second spot. David says in the commercial, “This is the worst Super Bowl party ever”, Oprah chides him saying, “now Dave be nice.” Then Jay pipes up, “you’re just saying that because I’m here.” Reportedly Conan O’Brien was also invited to join the Super Bowl Ad but he refused at the last moment. “There was an initial thought of having Dave, Jay and Conan together in the spot,” Executive producer of David Letterman’s Late Show, Rob Burnett told news agencies. “I called Jeff Ross (Conan’s producer) to talk about it.” But the call came in the midst of the Tonight Show fiasco so nothing ever came of the idea.
