Jayalalithaa all set to sweep Tamil Nadu elections
The Jayalalithaa-led AIADMK alliance has trounced the DMK front and is all set to come back to power in the state. Endemic corruption in DMK seems to have hit the government hard and cost it loss of power.
DEFYING THE predictions made by exit polls indicating a strong showing by the ruling party, Jayalalithaa led AIADMK front is all set to capture power in Tamil Nadu, as per the prevailing vote counting trends for Assembly elections in the state. AIADMK juggernaut seems to be crushing the ruling DMK, and is all set to boot its arch rivals out as it is leading in 190 seats out of 234 seats in Tamil Nadu Assembly.

The Karunanidhi led DMK, which seems to have been undone by rampant corruption in the government, typified by the 2G scam, is far behind the opposition as it leads only in 39 constituencies. The entire DMK leadership has come under the scanner for its role in the 2G scam, and despite populist promises made by the government, people have clearly thrown their lot with the AIADMK led by Jayalalithaa.

The AIADMK supremo is leading in Srirangam, whereas Karunanidhi, who was initially trailing in Tiruvarur seems to have retained the lead, as per latest reports.

Most of DMK ministers are trailing in their constituencies including finance minister K Anbazhagan, higher education minister K Ponmudi, food minister E V Velu, transport minister KN Nehru, commercial tax minister S N M Ubayadulla, foresh minister N Selvaraj, IT minister Poongothai Aladi Aruna, fisheries minister K P P Samy, health minister M R K Paneerselvam, backward classes minister K K S S R Ramachandran, agriculture minister Veerapandi Arumugham, hindu religious and charitable endowments minister K R Periyakaruppan, school education minister Thangam Thennarasu, tourism minister Suresh Rajan and sports minister T P M Mohideen Khan.
